Post political independence, African learning systems did not speak with any tangible measure of indigenous voice. Hence, the timely focus of this book. The four thematic parts besides this introductory chapter contain 15 chapters that descriptively, analytically, and critically deal with issues including: a recasting of the philosophical foundations of African education; a reexamination of higher education systems; discussion of cultural and linguistic issues and women’s education. All of these are complemented by a number of country case studies that look at selected problems and prospects of education and development in particular social contexts.
