The ﬁve model organisms whose genomes were also sequenced by the Human Genome Project are Escherichia coli (a bacterium), Saccharomyces cerevisiae (a yeast), Caenorhabditis elegans (a roundworm), Drosophila melanogaster (the fruit ﬂy), and Mus musculus (the mouse).
